ABOUT OK Wx ON-THE-ROAD Wx DATA

OK Wx On-the-Road Wx Data is intended to be used on-the-road while spotting/chasing in and around Oklahoma and Kansas with a data connection (such as a wireless modem). The goal is to provide some commonly used data in a lower bandwidth environment by just being able to load specific text/images (such as SPC Mesoscale Discussions). It is also set so images/text/pages that are loaded for viewing will automatically refresh themselves, eliminating the need to constantly refresh a whole page of data for one image. Multiple data is also viewable at the same time, for instance, loading a radar image into the main frame, and the clicking on the 'Mesoanalysis' category item, will load the Mesoanalysis menu page into the side menu with thumbnail images for things like mesoscale discussions and mesoanalysis. Both the radar image and the mesoanalysis menu will refresh themselves about every 5 minutes, allowing you to watch radar and keep an eye for the latest mesoscale discussion when it is released. Therefore, you will not have to switch browser windows constantly or reload entire pages for a few pieces of data your trying to watch.

HOW IT WORKS

This page is setup to allow viewing of weather products issues by the National Weather Service and the Storm Prediction Center, as well as some other internet sources. Most pages and images are set to refresh about every 5 minutes to reduce the need to constantly refresh pages in order to see new product releases. Some pages are set with a faster refresh rate, such as Watch/Warning pages.

At the top of the screen is the primary category list. Each item will load a menu to the side of the page with relevant data for that category. Each side menu with images will refresh itself every 5 minutes to load the newest available images automatically. Menus without images will not reload themselves. From the side menu, any item that is selected will load itself into the main window. Text and image products will reload themselves every 5 minutes, unless they are items that do no need refreshing (i.e. County Maps). If a page (listed under the side menu as 'LINK(S):') is loaded, it should refresh itself at either 5 minute intervals, or a pre-defined interval set by the page author. Most of the reloading of images is done with the use of a JavaScript, so if your browser is not setup for JavaScript, some pages may not work. Other items are reloaded with the use of HTML. Most items intended for viewing by 800x600 resolution that are loaded into the main frame should fit, but there might be some that are wider and will require scrolling of the window.

Image Loops: Clicking the '' next to a product will loop that image.
